"Review of Creative Labs Zen MP3 Player" 2009-10-03
By William M. Long (Atlanta, GA USA)
This player may not be as popular as the iPod but its capabilities are as good. And it offers a built-in FM receiver. The proprietary software Creative Console, used to import audio and video files into the player, is pretty good. The software's speed of downloading files into the player has improved over time. However, sometimes it gets confused and errors are created -- when this happens, you have to shut down the Creative Console software and restart it. The cataloging capabilities of the MP3 player itself is good, allowing you to pick genres, artists, playlists, albums, etc. when choosing your listening preferences. Different EQ settings are offered, too. I don't use the Wi-Fi option because I don't need it. My player has 8 GB of storage, enough for around 180 albums which is plenty for my needs. My particular player was a refurbished Zen X-Fi model (about $80), a replacement for a stolen Wi-Fi model purchased for around $200 18 months ago.

 "Protection worth adding" 2009-09-25
By S. Wilder (Northern California)
If your purchasing the Zen X-Fi, its a good idea to also grab one of these. The screen could be easily scratched even though it is made of quality material. Better the scratch be on an easily replaced protector than the actual screen.

This was easy to apply and did not get in the way of viewing at all.

 "Do they work?" 2009-07-08
By the son-in-law (Pacifica CA)
I couldn't get a perfect application with my first try even when I followed the directions. One little annoying bubble appeared :( I am glad that my mother-in-law has not mentioned it to me yet.

Maybe next time will be the charm....

As the other reviews state be VERY careful when removing tape from both sides any error will cause a bubble or smudges to show on the display.

 "Gets the job done" 2009-04-06
By J. Alex Kirkpatrick (Colorado)
The three protectors should keep the screen protected for quite a while. It fits well just over the screen of the player (the plastic around the buttons is still unprotected). I chose this over a case so that it didn't get too big to stick in my pocket. The protector attracts finger prints a bit easier than the regular screen, so I am constantly wiping it off. Make sure when you start to put it down that you have it positioned correctly the first time, if you have to pull any of it back up to reposition, it won't stick when you put it back down.

 "Great Product" 2009-09-12

This is a wonderful product! Some have said that the iPod is difficult to remove, but the plastic stretches after a few uses and the iPod is easily removed.

 "Good call" 2009-09-05
By A. Rubin (LI, NY)
I bought this to go running with my classic ipod. I have been wearing it to the gym and it stays tight no matter the exercise. It seems to be fairly popular at the gym too. It is a little tough to move the volume while the ipod is in the pocket. Other than that I did not see anything better out there.

 "Great armband" 2009-07-17
By L. Quilici (San Jose, CA)
This is a great armband! It stays in place while you exercise and doesn't bounce around. A lot of reviewers have written that it's hard to remove the iPod from the armband, but I have not had this problem. Just pinch at the bottom and it slides right out. Also, I haven't noticed any problem with using the scroll wheel through the plastic. I'm extremely happy with this product.

"Best one I've seen so far" 2009-06-30
By Acute Lady (Ft.Lauderdale, FL USA)
Pretty neat product. Serves its purpose, and serves it well.

Easy to put on. Doesn't bother at all. Only thing is that you will have to open a hole on the plastic to be able to spin and change songs and such, now that the plastic is a bit too thick and doesn't allow you to do so. Besides that minor detail is a great product and I highly recommend it.

 "Great Product so far" 2009-06-19
By All Your Base Us (Morrisville, NY)
I just got this and I use it for my imitation ipod - [...] It fits perfectly, and the plastic sheath doesn't interfere with the touch screen. I could easily cut some of the plastic so it could custom-fit my Vidego28 player, and the plastic seems durable enough to last at least a year which is the very least I expect for this price. The top of the Vidego28 is easily accessible from the top as the headphone jack is right there and I can also click the lock button. I was afraid it may not fit the Vidego28, but no complaints here. It barely fits around my fat arm so if you're not in the least of shape you may feel a slight pinch when wrapping it around your arm, buy you could always use a different band to form a custom fit.

"Great player for an affordable price" 2009-11-10
By Rene'
I bought this player to replace my iriver clix 2g player which I really liked but I ran out of space. I didn't care for the new iriver players and wanted something different. I have to say that this is the best and most affordable player I have bought. The sound quality is great. I didn't like the earphones that came with the player so I bought a pair of Sony earbuds and its really great. The player is easy to learn and to transfer music from WMP. I have had trouble transferring one video because I can't get it to show up in WMP. I don't bother with the transfer software that came with the player. So if you're looking not to pay $200, play music, videos and have some pictures (that is your don't need to access the internet or have wifi and other such stuff that you can do on your phone or computer) then this is the player for you.

 "Simple, powerful" 2009-11-07
By S. Dutta (NC)
Good Stuff:

1 Sound quality: Great SONY sound. I have been using the (the original cassette players) from school. I love their sound quality. Better than the i-pod any day (I have a i-pod touch , Its a multi funct device. Not a dedicated music player) I even like it more than the cowon D2+. But that is open to debate.

2. UI: The user interface is simple to use, and I like it.

Not so good stuff:

1. Its not sexy. Doesn't feel good in hands as the touch does.

2. It is actually downgrade in terms of accessories, such as NC headphones.

3. Screen is scratch prone.

I wish sony had some midrange stuff. The X series is too expensive, the S series is too cheap. Although they both have very good sound, some style wouldnt hurt. Maybe a bigger screen, better headphones, and a little bit more expensive, that would be the best option in portable music

 "Garbage!" 2009-11-04
By L. D. Freedman (New York)
I had it for less than a month before it died. The video wasn't very good and the formats that it plays is also limited. I resisted for as long as possible but now I know why Apple rules the MP3 world. I paid a more for the Touch and it's superior in every way possible better screen, better build and sound quality.

Too bad this is such a cheap build because the speakers were a cool feature and the battery life was excellent.

Also like the touch this device is not expandable, trust me spend a little more and avoid this cheap producr especially if you ever want to watch video.

 "Great MP3 Player" 2009-11-01
By Mad4Movies (Buckeye State)
I was happy to find this Sony MP3 Player while searching for a new one to replace my old Dell 5GB MP3 player. I originally was going to get the 8GB Sony but decided on the 16GB so I would have more storage for future use.

Overall this MP3 Player is a great little machine. It easy to use and import to using your Windows Media Player. I had one problem though when I went to sync it with my MP3's already in Windows Media Player. Once it was through and I went in to look at the cover art I noticed that some of them were not correct. I don't know how they got mixed up during the syncing process but they did. I decided to try it again to see if would work correctly so I deleted all my MP3's and hit sync again. Well the second time there were still some incorrect cover art that was different from the first time. I just left it after that...

I love the built in external speakers! While not the best sound from them it is nice to be able to listen to your player while not wearing earbuds. It makes it easier to share something with someone else also..

The 2.4 inch screen is awesome and very colorful. Your able to change the brightness also to fit your needs.

The FM radio is a big plus and to be able to record from the radio is even bigger! While I don't go around recording off the radio it is nice to be able to if I want. You can record your voice also which can be very helpful in remembering things like schedules or appoinments and things like that.

Alarm clock and sleep timer is a nice feature!

Pictures and Video Player is quite the norm these days in most players and that is the one reason I went with the 16GB over the 8GB so keep that in mind while looking for your new MP3 player.

One thing I do wish that was a feature would of been lighted buttons. Sometimes I listen to this before going to sleep and if I want to hit the next song or pause buttons for example you really have to feel for them in the dark.

Overall I love my Sony MP3 player and look forward to turning it on everytime. I think anyone who chooses this MP3 player won't be dissapointed.

 "Don't Waste Your Money" 2009-11-05
By S. Blomgren
I got the Archos 5 and the DVR station at the same time, at a time when Amazon was giving the DVR station away with a purchase of the Archos tablet (the tablet was more expensive then, so current prices would be about the same to buy both). The station never did work, right off the bat, but since it was free in the first place and I was in the middle of a serious health crisis (diagnosis of aggressive Stage IV cancer) by the time the products showed up, I didn't bother to do anything about it.

What was more troublesome is that the tablet worked fine as long as all I did was download audio files from my computer, which is all I did for the first month (I was having the first of two serious surgeries, and I just wanted things to listen to while I convalesced in the hospital). I registered the tablet, but did not download the program from the Archos website that lets you use the internet. But the next month, when I tried the download, the tablet crashed... and interactions with the company have been extremely frustrating and in the end, totally useless. I basically am now the owner of a $300 paperweight. Amazon won't replace it or give me my money back, and I don't have the time or energy or money.

I got this product before there were more than a few reviews, and none of them were negative. Now you can look at all the 1 star reviews and get a good idea of what you are getting. PAY ATTENTION to those reviews - basically you are flipping a coin when you buy the machine - heads you win and get a useful device, tails and you'd get a better deal and a lot less frustration if you just set a couple $100 bills on fire. At least you'd get a couple moments of warmth from the exercise...

"This version is very buggy. Prepare to deal with issues" 2009-11-02
By Ottis F. Compton (Columbus, Ohio)
There are two different versions of this product with very similar names. Amazon had features of the new product listed on the old version. Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet vs. Archos 5 Media Tablet. Archos' website is very confusing between the versions. The device was difficult to get on my wireless network and I had to make undesired changes for it to connect (example. Broadcast the SSID Network Name). My Windows XP would not recognize the device unless I rebooted with the device connected to the computer, in other word I couldn't plug it in and use it without a reboot. I really wanted the device to live up to the advertising so I ensured it had all the latest updates and still expirienced multiple issues including locking up. There is no phone support that I could find for technical help so email exchange was the only option. I emailed techincal support describing my issues and let them know I will be forced to return the device if they can't help me resolve these. I wish I kept the email from support but they just replied with a RMA number and didn't even try to answer any questions. On paper the product appears very impressive, in hand it works some times but you'll spend a lot of time trouble shooting issues.

 "Great product, poor reliability." 2009-10-26
By C. Kauffman (Ohio)
Pros: Its not an iPOD so it doesn't force you to use iTunes. Lets you navigate MP3's by files/folders or ID3 tags. Many players force you to use ID3 tags so unless your music's ID3 tags are perfect you could be missing a lot of songs. Can add and remove files by dragging and dropping folders in windows or using windows media player. Beautiful screen. Easy to use. Great picture viewer. Video player was really really cool. Connected to any wireless networks I connected it to. Kickstand is extremely useful. Between what it let you do and how it did it this thing is truly the coolest toy I have ever played with. (yes even better than an iPhone) I loved this thing.

Cons: Apparently it has horrible failure rates. Mine had the hard drive fail after 2 weeks of use. Archos has abysmal product support reputation in the US. You have to buy codecs to play certain media types which isn't really that big of a deal. It played 90% of my movies without the add on codec pacs. Crashes a lot when viewing certain web pages that run flash. Occasionally crashed when doing other things too but not often enough to be annoying. Also annoying you have to pay an extra $25-50 to be able to connect it to a TV. EQ was nice but didn't get near as loud or offer near as many options for sound as my Cowon X5L.

Summary: I returned my defective unit for a full refund(minus return shipping). Amazon stopped selling this unit for a week or two while they reviewed their stock of units to see if they were defective. That says something about the issues other people were having. I got a strong feeling that this unit would work from probably 1 month to 1 year then need require repair or replacement. I'm not really interested in shelling out $300+ for a neat toy that will only last a few months to a year before it needs to be shipped back for repair and leave me without an MP3 player for a month or two. Thing is awesome when it works. But it is too big of a gamble to assume you or I would get our monies worth.

iLuv i177 Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPod (Black)

Buy Cheap iLuv i177 Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPod (Black)

Buy Low Price From Here Now

When the iPod was first released, most viewed it as a personal music player for traveling, working out, or other "individual" activities. But that all changed when people started storing their entire music collections on their iPods and doing away with CDs entirely. Among the many product categories that emerged in the aftermath was the iPod-specific speaker system, which lets you listen to your entire iTunes library out loud but without sacrificing portability. The jWin I177BLK is the latest incarnation--a user-friendly, compact speaker system that looks somewhat like a clock radio (and functions like one, too), but stands ready to deliver deep, rich audio playback.

The powered system is outfitted with a dock on the top surface that holds many iPod models. The dock not only grips the iPod in an easy-to-access location, making it a breeze to find specific songs or hit shuffle, but it also charges the iPod while in use. As a result, you can remove the iPod from the dock right before working out and it'll still be fully charged, even after playing through the speakers for an entire afternoon. Even better, the I177BLK isn't restricted to the iPod, as it also connects to other USB-equipped personal MP3 players. Households with several personal music players won't be left out of the playback loop.

The system's audio performance is warmly satisfying thanks to jWin's Aura acoustic technology, which adds depth and clarity to the music reproduction. And even though the system is built for digital music files, it also includes a built-in clock, a dual alarm function, and an AM/FM _radio with PLL digital tuning technology. The radio makes the unit ideal for bedrooms, offices, and other locations where an alarm comes in handy. Listeners even have their choice of waking to the iPod, the radio, or a buzzer.

Additional features include a user-friendly backlit LCD screen, a precision volume control that ensures a comfortable sound level, a remote control for maximum convenience, and an external loop antenna that improves the AM reception. The I177BLK, which comes in a sleek black housing that measures 11.25 by 3.12 by 6.75 inches (W x H x D), is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

 "Great Product!" 2009-10-19
By K. Dudek (Cincinnati, OH)
After doing a lot of research on iPod docks, I decided to go with this one after seeing all of the great reviews. It was a gift for my boyfriend's birthday. He has an iPod touch 1st generation, and there were no compatibility issues. Great design, great sound, great price!

"poor design as a clock" 2009-10-02
By choosymom
I got this product to replace our alarm clock and double as a docking station for the 3G ipod touch I just bought my husband. The music-related features were fine (docking, charging, speaker quality, sleep mode, etc) but its a crappy clock design that doubles as a very bright night light.

The numerals are gray on a gray background...difficult to read at night. And yet the background is lit very brightly, even on the dimmest of three settings. My 8yo who sleeps with a very bright night light loved that mom and dad's room was "all lit up." Me, not so much. I had to turn the light off completely to sleep and thus you can't see what time it is at all if you wake up in the night. If that's not enough...it also hums periodically and the buzzer tone sounds like a fire alarm, so I can't imagine anyone would want to wake up to that instead of music.

It's going back. Bah.

 "not a bad product" 2009-09-17
By lady meko
i bought it because for the most part the reviews all said that the alarm was loud. and it is for the most part.the buzzer is more like a tornado siren and yet i am still managing to sleep through it because some how when i hit snooze its turning the alarm off. maybe when they redesign it they can fix the issue and have the snooze go until you turn the alarm buttons off like all other clocks

other than that i am pleased with the product

 "Exactly as expected..." 2009-09-12
By M. Bellin (Woodbury, MN United States)
I was looking for an ipod station, a radio, and preferably a clock, so this was a perfect solution. It's very easy to use, and I like the dimmest setting of the clock. The speakers can be cranked pretty high, and although they don't give you a lot of depth, they're perfectly adequate for filling a small to mid-sized room. The little remote works fine, but I don't really use it. Works great with our 2G nano and 1G touch. Exactly what I needed, and the price was right!

 "Failed after 6 weeks!" 2009-09-09
By C. Harris
My dock has distorted sound when playing ipod through it after only 6 weeks. No it isn't the ipod which is fine. Haven't managed to work out how to get a replacement or refund yet! Pretty disgruntled.

Liked the unit until it stopped working properly......

 "Dissapointed" 2009-11-08
By Stephen H. Butts Jr. (Mississippi)
I was very dissapointed at the quality of sound from the RP7887 Super radio. That 6 inch speaker is just window dressing.

I've had better midrange and bass from cheaper radios with 3 inch speakers. The overall is sound is "tinny". It does have

good reception on distant stations, but with lousy sound , who cares.

 "A real winner" 2009-11-05
By Lois Deyoung (Venice Florida)
The clean stylying and ease of tunning are definately a plus. Other radios I purchased paled in comparison to The RCA SUPERADIO. The sound is full, mellow, and truly compares with much more expensive ones. Also I had forgotten how good AM radio could be. As I said,The RCA Superadio is a real Winner.

"2009 version - Not Super anymore. Lousy build quality and sound." 2009-11-04
By Mr_Dave
Apparently they are sending a totally different version of this radio now compared to what was available when many of these reviews were written.

The radio they are sending now (8-2009) is a heavy but cheap piece of black plastic with the lowest quality components possible. The sound is fairly harsh (due to significant amounts of high frequency distortion at ALL volumes) and it breaks up completely into a blast of noise and distortion with the volume is set past 3-4 on FM. It's not the speaker distorting, the problem is the tiny amp rated at 1/4 to 1/3 watt. Those numbers are fairly accurate and based on actual electronic measurements I did with a quality true RMS Volt and watt meter. While being physically large, this heavy radio has less power than some tiny radio's that I have and only 1/10th the power of a decent, 4 watt mp3/clock radio setup. Due to it's size it gets loud enough to use in a typical kitchen or living room setting but it's easily surpassed in reception, sound quality and volume by pretty much any decent quality boombox and most amplified mp3 or computer speakers. The original GE SuperRadio woofer has been replaced with an equal size but lighter and more efficient speaker with a smaller magnet and a lightweight cone.

There is a separate tweeter for clarity but the radio as a whole is easily distorted by even modest volume levels due to the tiny internal amp. Yes, the batteries will last a long, long time because tiny amps don't take much power.

They should replace the amp with a better one or change the design over to AA batteries instead of D cells since it would still run a long time even on AA's and then the radio could then be built at half the size and weight and still sound better.

The AFC button (auto frequency control) has a design flaw in the circuitry that reduces the bass response by 3-4dB when enabled.

The rotary knobs have a large amount of slop in the mechanism even when new and feel like they wont last long.

Good tuner designs can be completely silent between stations but they didn't try much on this one. It has loud noise and distortion between FM stations and the noise is often louder than the stations themselves.

Even a tiny Sandisk $29 Sansa mp3 player that I tested gets more stations and is clearer.

I own an original GE SuperRadio and have realistic expectations so I felt inclined to let people know that this is not the same product. RCA is clearly not trying much with this model since it has no relation to the original GE SuperRadio that it's based on. After reading some reviews talking about the wonderful sound quality I felt obligated to provide more detailed information from an Audio Engineers perspective and let them know that this is not the real deal anymore. I returned it.

"Bad radio right out of the box" 2009-10-12
By Edward Niemczura (Fitchburg, Ma United States)

This radio was broken right out of the box, and i've been given a series on non working 800 numbers to call in pursuit of warranty service.

Audiovox, GE, and RCA claim they don't support this item.

Don't buy!

"Nice radio at the price, but falls short of expectations" 2009-10-12
By William P. Hamon (Centerville, OH, USA)
I enjoy reading reviews, and rarely have I seen such a wide range of opinions on a product. Many love this radio and many are disgusted with it. Some could be the issue of quality control, but radio reception has always been a very touchy subject. Atmospheric conditions can really interfere with reception. I love the radio--the sound is great. FM performance--which is admittedly short range--is super. AM is somewhat disappointing, although it's very satisfactory for local signals;local stations tend to crowd the dial. I'm considering using an antenna for improved range. In short, this is too good and economical to trash. Those seeking true dx performance would likely look to far more pricey products. Would rate three and a half or three-quarters if allowed.
